Denver Botanical Gardens
There’s no question that this is an incredibly popular day trip among both tourists and residents alike. Featured from November through March, the official tour is one hour long and located at the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory on York Street. This display takes pride in having one of the most beautiful and interesting tropical plant arrangements in the entire country.
While this little bit of warmth and sunny tropical reminders of summer can be a great thing in and of itself, you can extend the day by looking at the Chatfield location to find a wide array of things to do such as visit display gardens, a historical farm, and nature trails.
The Red Rocks Amphitheater
If you have never seen a show here, you are definitely missing out. The winter hours run from nine in the morning to four in the afternoon, and they are open all seven days a week not only is there a local Red Rocks Performers Hall Of Fame but there is incredible 1.4 mile hiking trail that displays absolutely stunning natural rock formations, valleys, and really brings home the stunning beauty of when desert meets mountain. There are plenty of restaurants and shops here it as well so you will have no shortage of things to do.
If you want to see even more incredible nature, you can plan another day trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park, which also features plenty to do throughout the winter months and lets you see the snowy beauty of the Rocky Mountains up close and personal.
The Casino Cities
Although these are a little bit over 30 miles away from Denver, if you are looking for something really different then head west for Central City and Black Hawk. These two small towns offer a stunning array of over 30 casinos to choose from. Whether you prefer card games, slot machines, or one of the many more traditional in-house games you will almost certainly find something that suits every one of your needs. If you’re someone who loves a little bit a gambling this is a great one day trip for you.
